Visit to the Macedonian Clock Tower and Balkan History Museum within the Course Scope

Our school's Architectural Decorative Arts and Architectural Restoration Programs, in the context of the courses Serbest Tasarım, Sanat Tarihi I, Mimarlık Tarihi I, Kazı Teknikleri ve Konservasyonu I, and Cam ve Mozaik Onarımı I, for the first and second grades, were visited by students under the supervision of Lecturer Altay BAYATLI and Lecturer Nergis ÇANAK. The visit took place at the Macedonian Clock Tower and Hıdırlık Tabya Balkan History Museum, which are part of Edirne Castle.

During the visit within the course, the ancient castle tower, which was used as a clock and fire tower in ancient times and is located in the area behind Ziraat Bank in the center of Edirne today, and the Edirne Walls around it were examined. Ceramic furnaces from the Roman Period within the walls were introduced to the students. Additionally, information was provided about how the region, revealed through archaeological excavations, is preserved or should be preserved. Emphasis was placed on the rich history of Edirne, and the stages the city went through in history were discussed through the layers on the walls.

In the Balkan Wars Museum section, information was given about the fortifications built in the late Ottoman period, emphasizing war architecture. The area where the old city is located was introduced, and opinions about the exhibition and arrangement of the museum were expressed.
